Ron Paul Signs H.R. 1831!

Ron Paul has signed original copy of H.R. 1831, the Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2011, which is printed on hemp paper, the pen used by Representative Ron Paul to sign it, and several photos of the event for provenance. A signing ceremony was held on May 11, 2011 in his Capitol Hill office and this is only one of two copies of the bill that were signed that day. Well, let's hope for the best and please contact your Congressman to support H.R. 1831. Let's bring Hemp back to America! Let's get our farmers busy and spur on new industries and increase employment by allowing Industrial Hemp to be legally grown in the United States!

If the U.S. government was really serious about stimulating the economy, one of the actions they could take is to legalize the growing of Industrial Hemp.

Just from this one crop alone, over 30,000 products could be produced, including bio-fuel! Just think of all the manufacturing and processing plants that would be born if hemp was legalized. We could stop importing the over $400,000,000 in hemp each year and produce it ourselves. Entire industries would be birthed and our economy would come alive! Farmers would be busier than ever because they would be growing a renewable crop that gives back to the land it is grown in.

We need to rise up and make our citizens aware of hemp and the possibilities surrounding this crop. Spread the word about this blog and other sites like it. Join the growing chorus of people fighting for this crop to be grown AGAIN in the United States.

What's the hold-up? Monsanto, Dupont and other companies that would lose business if hemp was legalized in the U.S. For example, cotton crops consume almost one half of all pesticides produced! Just an update: The status of this Bill is that it is in committee and so far, voters who have weighed in are 99% in favor of growing Industrial Hemp in the United States.

A BILL

To amend the Controlled Substances Act to exclude industrial hemp from the definition of marihuana, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2011’.
SEC. 2. EXCLUSION OF INDUSTRIAL HEMP FROM DEFINITION OF MARIHUANA.

Section 102 of the Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. 802) is amended--

(1) in paragraph (16)--

(A) by striking ‘(16) The’ and inserting ‘(16)(A) The’; and
(B) by adding at the end the following:
‘(B) The term ‘marihuana’ does not include industrial hemp.’; and
(2) by adding at the end the following:
‘(57) The term ‘industrial hemp’ means the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of such plant, whether growing or not, with a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.’.

SEC. 3. INDUSTRIAL HEMP DETERMINATION.

Section 201 of the Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. 811) is amended by adding at the end the following:

‘(i) Industrial Hemp Determination- If a person grows or processes Cannabis sativa L. for purposes of making industrial hemp in accordance with State law, the Cannabis sativa L. shall be deemed to meet the concentration limitation under section 102(57).’.

Hemp Heals Land!

On April 26, 1986 one of the world's worse nuclear disasters took place took in Chernobyl. Of course, since than, Japan may be the worse.

The blast at Chernobyl heavily contaminated agricultural land within a 20 mile radius of the reactor. What do you do with land contaminated with radiation?

With the combination of a new technology called phytoremediation and a old crop called Industrial Hemp the Ukraine found a way to remove the contaminants from the land.

Hemp is proving to be one of the BEST phytoremediative plants in the world. Unlike it's cousin marijuana, it only contains a minute amount of THC, the stuff that makes you "high." Hemp is a natural God-given crop that can actually heal our land! Yet our government refuses to legalize it because of it's obsolete belief that it is a drug!

It has been proven again and again that you cannot get high on Industrial Hemp. As Ron Paul once said, "You would have to smoke a joint [made of industrial hemp] the size of a telephone pole to get high."

Politics with "certain" big business (take a guess what businesses) is keeping hemp growing illegal in the United States. As I have stated in other posts, some states are working to change all that and Ron Paul has introduced legislation to legalize hemp once again (H.R. 1831). Let's let our State representatives know that we support the H.R. 1831.

Hemp Food & Body Care Sales on the Rise!

WASHINGTON, June 28, 2011 -- Hemp Industries Association Reports Final Estimates of $419 Million in U.S. Retail Hemp Sales for 2010

WASHINGTON, June 28, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Hemp Industries Association (HIA), a non-profit trade association consisting of hundreds of hemp businesses has released final estimates of the size of the U.S. retail market for hemp food and body care products in 2010. Data supporting the estimates shows that retail sales of hemp food and body care products in the U.S. continued to set records in 2010 reaching $40.5 million. Sales of popular hemp items like non-dairy milk, shelled hemp seed, soaps and lotions have occurred against the backdrop of increasing grassroots pressure to allow hemp to be grown here once again for U.S. manufacturers. Sales in conventional retailers in particular are estimated to have grown by 19% in 2010.

The sales data, collected by the market research firm SPINS, was obtained from natural and conventional food retailers, excluding Whole Foods Market and other establishments, which do not provide sales data – and thus underestimate actual sales by a factor of at least three. According to the SPINS data, combined hemp grocery and body care sales grew in the sampled stores by 10.1% or $3.94 million, over the previous year ending December 26, 2010, to a total of $40.5 million.

Due to significant sales excluded from the SPINS data, such as The Body Shop, Whole Foods Market and restaurants, as well as the fact that many unreported leading mass-market brands of suntan lotion and sunscreen products include hemp oil, the HIA estimates the total retail value of North American hemp food, vitamin and body care product sales to be in the range of $121-142 million for 2010.

"The HIA is confident that the total North American hemp food and body care market over the last year accounted for at least $121 million in retail sales," says David Bronner, the President of Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps who uses hemp oil in their top-selling products. "According to data released by the Canadian government earlier this year hemp production in Canada almost doubled in 2010 with total acreage growing to 26,815 acres", says Eric Steenstra, HIA Executive Director. "The HIA estimates the total retail value of hemp products in the U.S. at around $419 Million, when including clothing, auto parts, building materials and other non-food or body care products. This number combined with the increased acreage in Canadian hemp fields further validates U.S. farmers' concern that they are being shut out of the lucrative hemp market that Canadian farmers have cashed in on for over a decade now," continues Steenstra.
